Donuts is seeking a dynamic Director, Employee Experience to support our fast moving company with awesome employees.  We are currently primarily working remotely and expect to transition to a hybrid environment over time.  This role is built for seasoned HR leader confident in their ability to deliver high-touch professional counsel with the capacity to get into the details and quickly shift focus when business needs arise.  You will also help oversee our developing Corporate Social Responsibility program and lead event planning in our offices around the world.  The right candidate will have passion for strong positive cultures, a bias for diversity, equity and inclusion, strong attention to detail, a sense of humor and a solid EQ.

We are growing, have the basics in place and need you to help take what we have in place today to the next level.  

A few projects you will be involved in right away include:

  • Bring our developing Corporate Social Responsibility program to life

  • Lead development of our first employee handbook

  • Evaluate learning and development opportunities and create manager tool kits for performance management,  goal setting, onboarding and talent selection which embed Donut’s newly adopted Core Values


What you will do in this role:

You will partner with global leaders to implement Donuts’ People strategy in the areas of retention, engagement, recognition, compensation, organizational design, development, and talent management through a DEI lens.

Performance Management

  • Manage the annual performance review process.  Develop tools, training and process to assist everyone involved in the process.

  • Identify learning and development needs across business units;   Participate in evaluation and development, delivery and maintenance  of programs and toolkits.

Office Management

  • Lead and mentor onsite Office Manager/HR Administrators in field locations.

Employee Engagement

  • Partner closely with the local and regional People Team partners on global strategy execution.

  • Cultivate a culture that reflects Donuts’ purpose, vision, mission and values and  drives high performance, robust engagement, and fosters belonging and inclusion for all team members.

  • Manage the onboarding process for new hires and offboarding process for employee separations.

  • Develop employee engagement initiatives and introduce an engagement survey process.

  • Support the overall health and wellness of our employees.

  • Identify learning and development needs across business units;   Participate in evaluation and development, delivery and maintenance  of programs and toolkits.

  • Analyze Exit Interviews data and recommend data-driven solutions to improve the overall employee experience and retention.

  • Identify learning and development needs across business units;   Participate in evaluation and development, delivery and maintenance  of programs and toolkits.

  • Facilitate group training sessions as appropriate.

Organization Development

  • Coach and support leaders and teams through restructuring and talent management initiatives.  

  • Engage leaders in succession planning and high talent identification efforts.

  • Participate in due diligence and acquisition integration activities.

Performance Management

  • Provide  day-to-day performance management guidance managers (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).

  • Be a trusted advisor in all areas of HR, including policy, procedures and programs, employee relations, leaves of absences, organization development and compensation.

  • Develop and communicate HR policy and process.

  • Engage in continuous process improvement and effective change management for People initiatives.

  • Coach managers on performance management, employee relations and policy, employee development, and career pathing.

  • Identify learning and development needs across business units;   Participate in evaluation and development, delivery and maintenance  of programs and toolkits.

What we would like to see in you:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field.

  • A minimum 10 years progressively responsible experience, preferably including experience in a startup organization, who can comfortably interface with all levels of the organization and effectively represent multiple HR disciplines, including at least three years in a management capacity. 

  • Experience developing and managing global compensation and benefit programs is required and familiarity with ADP and other HR Systems is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in Canadian workplace practices is a plus.

  • Experience in a late-stage startup or growing venture with 200-300 employees is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and document and scale  processes to meet the needs of a rapidly growing organization.

  • A passion for strong positive cultures, a bias for diversity, equity and inclusion, operational capability, a sense of humor and a solid EQ.

  • Successful track record establishing credibility and trust with a diverse, global and remote employee base; solid judgment, diplomacy and negotiation skills and the ability to ‘bring people along’.

  • Strong analytical skills; a critical thinker with the ability to seek out and utilize data for creative problem solving.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare clear and concise reports and deliver formal presentations and learning programs.

  • Experience supporting a significant Canadian employee base is highly desirable.

  • Current GPHR, PHR, CCP or CEBS certifications are a plus.
